Hello Team,
Thanks for joining us again for our Accessibility Tips & Tricks series! Last week, we explored “The Why” including the laws and the heart behind our accessibility efforts. This week, we’re focusing on “The What.”
Before we can make our digital spaces more accessible, we first need to understand what we have. “The What” is all about taking inventory of the materials and platforms we use every day to teach, communicate, and connect.
Start by identifying the types of digital content your department or team creates and shares. Key areas to review include:
Documents & PDFs: Handouts, forms, newsletters, and reports shared with staff, students, or families.
Websites: Web pages or sites that house important digital resources.
Social Media: Images, videos, and posts that communicate with stakeholders.
Video & Audio: Recorded lessons, tutorials, announcements, or podcasts.
This process is about creating a clear picture of where we are and where we can grow. An inventory helps us see what’s accessible, what needs attention, and what resources we can leverage to make improvements. NOTE: Only resources you'll be using AFTER April of 2026 need to be accessible. If there are documents that are not going to be used or referenced after that date, you don't need to consider these.
You can explore examples, templates, and guidance for completing your inventory at a11y.esu10.org/the-what and a11y.esu10.org/the-what/inventory
Review your team’s digital content: Identify key materials and platforms you manage, especially those you'll be using after April of 2026.
Use the resources on the Accessibility Hub to begin your inventory.
Highlight: Check out the new videos Peg has done!
Watch for next week’s tip where we’ll dive into “The How,” and share tools and strategies to help make your content accessible.
Reach out during office hours if you’d like help getting started. Please schedule with one of the team if unavailable between 8:00-9:00 on Mondays.
Every small step we take helps create a more inclusive digital environment for our learners, families, and colleagues.
Thank you for your commitment to accessibility and equity,
ESU 10 Accessibility Implementation and Planning Team
